He is one of Australia’s biggest stars. We’ve seen Jonathan LaPaglia on hit shows like Underbelly, Love Child and The Slap – but nothing compares to his current gig on Survivor Australia.
Speaking to Confidential, LaPaglia says being the Survivor host is the hardest job he has done.
The veteran actor, who has been on the show for three seasons shared, “It’s way harder (than acting). When they first approached me I thought it was going to be surfing and cocktails. It’s so not that. “It’s probably one of the hardest gigs I’ve done.”
The 49-year-old would never say yes to another reality TV show, because Survivor is so unique.
“This is not really like a traditional hosting job. The only time it becomes like a traditional hosting job is the live finale,” he said.
The star confessed that his turn to reality TV has definitely made an impact to his acting career.
“Sometimes you wake up and think ‘how did I get here’, but I’m sure everyone has those thoughts,” he mused before adding, “That was definitely part of the decision-making process.”
The Ten show’s American counterpart has hit a momentous 37 seasons – with their host Jeff Probst there for every tribal ceremony.
La Paglia doesn’t think that he will have 37 season’s worth of longevity.
“I will be very, very old,” he joked, before saying the Aussie show could survive.
“I take my hat off to the production crew across the board for producing the show they’ve come up with, because from a production point of view it equals the US, which is remarkable with half the crew and a quarter of the budget. Hats off to them.”
