It honestly feels like it was just last week that we were watching our ’24 MAFS couples sink or swim during the final vows ceremony. The season was undoubtedly one of the best, with big personalities, unforgettable drama, a couple swap, friendships, feuds…and sure, a healthy dose of romance in there too.

But although we may still be checking in on past relationships, the start of a new year means one thing and one thing only – a new season of Married at First Sight.

Will there be a MAFS Australia Season 12?

Of course! It wouldn’t be a new year without a new dose of MAFS, and over the Christmas break, Nine treated Aussie audiences to an extra gift – dropping the first teaser trailer and release date for the 2025 season.

Whilst we’ve only just been introduced to the 2025 brides and grooms, boy, did the trailer bring the drama. Chemistry, tears and a lot of weddings – it’s looking to be one of the biggest seasons yet.

What do we know about the 2025 season of MAFS Australia?

Over the past few months, a lot of rumours have been circulating about the new season of the experimental dating show, but we’re rounding up everything we know for sure.

The trailer did confirm one of the biggest plot twists of the season – one couple is not in fact ‘marrying at first sight.’ Yep, despite the premise (and title) of the show, it looks like one couple have actually met before.

“I know him, can you believe that?” one bride whispers to the producer in the new trailer, who then asks, “How did it end with you and him?”

“He just stopped texting. I was in shock because he ghosted me,” the bride responds.

We also know the season will include a brand-new twist: Final Test Week. According to Nine, this international MAFS first will see participants “confronted with the age-old question, ‘Is the grass greener on the other side?'”

Our favourite trio of experts are also returning, with certified sexologist Alessandra Rampolla and relationship experts John Aiken and Mel Schilling all joining the franchise for another year.

Has MAFS been cancelled?

In good news for MAFS fans, the show definitely hasn’t been cancelled for 2025, but according to a TV insider, this year’s season could potentially be one of the last.

Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the source claimed that the 2025 cohort was “off the rails” (which is no easy feat when it comes to MAFS standards) and speculated that the upcoming season “could easily be the very last season of Married at First Sight if the cast don’t stop acting like brats!”

“We’ve encountered the most walkouts and couples refusing to film. It is 1000 per cent looking like a circus of a series,” the source continued, adding that “what goes down might be too bonkers even for MAFS viewers to connect with.”

While most MAFS fans are taking the speculation with a grain of salt, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that the show returns in 2026.

The first trailer also saw the network confirm the release date: January 27, 2025.
