In the words of our new queen of Australian Survivor: “People shouldn’t underestimate what a 60-year-old can do!”
After 50 days in Fiji, former Olympian Shane Gould took out the competition winning Australian Survivor: Champions Vs. Contenders.
After the final tribal council voted for their new queen, the 61-year-old won by one single point – receiving the $500,000 prize.
The sporting legend swam past her opposition Sharn Coombes and Brian Lake to secure the title as the very first winner of the Australian Survivor spin-off.
Gould is no stranger to being a champion, having been an Aussie icon since the age of 13. She has won three gold medals and set 11 world records.
“I came into this game as a champion and I’m leaving as a champion. It’s up there with my other achievement. It’s really the icing on the cake.”
“People shouldn’t underestimate what a 61-year-old can do!”
Gould told The Herald Sun that she plans to build a house in Tasmania with her new fortune – but her decision to go on the show was never about the money.
“I was really more interested in the whole process. So the money was like a carrot, but I was more interested in the experience,” she mused, adding, “Now that it’s happened I can’t believe it.”
The Olympian may have gained a new crown, but she confirmed that she lost 12kgs.
