The Voice Australia Quarter Finals are officially under way, with four contestants from each team now battling it out for a spot in the Semi Finals.
However, while there were stand-out performances from 12-year-old contestant Leyla Sabo and boy group The 60 Four (both from Coach Ronan Keating’s team), there was one detail that fans watching at home couldn’t ignore, and it had nothing to do with the contestants.
Viewers have had a fair few gripes this season, but it’s rarely been about the artists singing their hearts out on stage. From Coach Richard Marx’s “harsh” feedback to complaints about the Tones and I twist making the Blind Auditions more “cold”, fans have threatened to turn off the hit reality singing show more than once this season.
As the Quarter Finals kicked off on Sunday night, many fans seemed to have only one thing to say, starting a debate that — quite frankly — I thought we were over having in 2026.

The Voice fans slam Sonia Kruger’s outfit: ‘very tacky’
Sonia Kruger stunned audiences on Sunday night, September 13, with a green dress that was absolutely gorgeous.
However, according to some fans, it was “too short” and not appropriate “for her age”, sparking a debate online.
“Sonia Kruger can your dress get any shorter? Honestly, you need to dress for your age,” one fan wrote on social media.
“Gotta agree, way too short that’s what 18-year-olds dress in to go nightclubbing and many wear longer,” another replied. “Definitely should be dressing to her age.”
“It wouldn’t matter what age, it’s just too short,” a third chimed in.
“Very tacky outfit,” another exclaimed.
It’s unfortunate to see people commenting on what women should and shouldn’t wear being normalised again.
For a show that is meant to celebrate singing talent, it’s a shame to see fans preoccupied with using age as a weapon to bring successful women down.
Fans rush to support Sonia online
However, all hope is not lost! For every negative comment online, there was a positive one, with fans rushing to support Sonia and call out the “jealous” behaviour and double standard in the backlash.
“You look gorgeous!” one fan wrote on Sonia Kruger’s Instagram post featuring her dress. “Ignore the haters who are saying the dress is too short. They’re just jealous.”
“We need to be supporting each other as women, not bringing each other down,” another fan commented in response to backlash about the host’s outfit. “She is one blessed woman who can pull it off and looks amazing. Be happy for her.”
“Oh goodness, leave Sonia alone,” a third wrote. “She is gorgeous and no doubt works hard for her body. Let her enjoy her hard work and wear what she wants. She isn’t pretentious. She is sweet and stunning and looks amazing.”
“I think she looks like all of us over 50 wish we looked like… All power to you Sonia,” one viewer commented in support.
You don’t have to love her look. You can even hate it if it’s not to your taste or style. But don’t let your hate steal the spotlight from the point of the show — the brave artists competing on national TV.
Thank goodness there were some fans who could point this detail out!
