Only two weeks into the game, and The Traitors players have already gone mad. From the shock banishment of innocent players to the “delusional” decision to leave Married at First Sight’s Cam Merchant and $10,000 behind, the game has gotten into these celebrities’ heads, and it shows!
As if all of that wasn’t enough, the latest round table – where the faithfuls hope to banish who they believe is a traitor – ended in tears.
Australian Idol’s Cosima De Vito suddenly became the victim of a pile-on that evening, after her eagerness to catch a traitor drew too much attention.
While Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson was one of the few players to defend the Faithful – especially since they were both in LSD, the alliance that the former Australian Idol judge formed – this wasn’t enough to sway the rest of the players. After The Block twins – Josh and Luke Packham – accused Cosima of slipping up with her words, the evidence was set in stone, and no amount of convincing could turn things around.
Banished, Cosima shared a tearful farewell before shocking contestants with the reveal that she was, of course, an innocent faithful.
Speaking to WHO about her exit, Cosima revealed how she felt and what it was like to break down on national Australian television (again).
“They were the puppeteers and we were the puppets,” she said. “They were just standing back yesterday. They didn’t bring Cam back, which I’ll never understand.
“I’m so devastated for him. At that point, I was like, I don’t even want to be here. Who are these people? Like, how do you do that to a contestant?”
‘I was totally blindsided’
Cosima’s journey on The Traitors began with a heartfelt reunion between her and Dicko, who was a mentor to her during her iconic 2003 stint on the show.
“I can’t even explain to you what it felt like when we opened the car’s doors at the manor, and I saw him,” she told WHO. “My heart, it was pounding.”
After being blindfolded and having their fans taken away from them, it was a welcome surprise to see her old friend, and she was more than happy to join the LSD alliance he formed in episode one.
However, the alliance unfortunately didn’t last long as Luke and Josh (members of LSD) went for Cosima during the round table.
“I was totally blindsided – totally, totally blindsided,” she said. “I thought I had the twins back. I thought they had mine. We were part of the LSD alliance, but they came up with an argument which is just ridiculous.
“I live in my head, so when you’re asking me about what it’s like to be a traitor, I said, ‘Oh look, I think it’s really bad’. I’m thinking inside my head, and I’m talking before I’m thinking.”
However, the other contestants didn’t see it this way, and when Cosima tried to defend herself, she admitted that it just made things worse.
“I just went all Italian on everyone,” she joked. “I’m like, ‘What is wrong with you all?’ I think it just freaked everyone out.”
‘I’m sobbing again on national TV’
After Cosima received the most votes at the round table and wished everyone a tearful goodbye, the player joked about the deja vu she felt in that moment, particularly after crying during her time on Australian Idol 23 years ago.
“I was just dumbfounded,” she admitted. “It was just upsetting.
“And inside of me, I’m going, ‘I’m crying again – 23 years later on national TV, on channel 10, with Dicko there’. If I had planned it that way, it never would have worked out that way.”
She added: “I’m like, ‘I’m sobbing again on national TV! Come on, people!’ At least this time I exited without nodules…”
There’s always a silver lining.
