One day after Australian’s voted “YES” for gay marriage, Richard Wilkins has delivered an emotional speech about the topic while filming TODAY.
In an emotional piece-to-camera, Wilkins made a heartfelt shoutout to his son Christian who is has been a huge advocate for the YES campaign.
“Look I just want to say something. It was a significant day for Australia which has of course resonated around the world.”
“It was also a very profound day for my family. My son Christian has been a passionate advocate for marriage equality. And to see the joy and relief on his face yesterday made me very happy and extremely proud of my beautiful boy.”
“It feels to me like we all grew up a little bit yesterday,” he said.

Christian has since taken to social media to share the same video of his father and captioned it: “What an amazing day yesterday was, I’ve never felt prouder to be an Aussie.”
