When Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, returned to work on October 2 the occasion was marked by a poignant photo.
Kate, 42, met with a young photographer who is battling cancer at Windsor Castle on October 2.
The princess, who has recently completed her own course of chemotherapy treatments, was pictured warmly embracing Liz Hatton, 16, who is battling a rare and aggressive tumour.
The Wales’ invited the teenager to the palace to take photos of an investiture ceremony that Prince William was holding.

After the ceremony, Liz and her family met with the royal couple in private.
The meeting came as Catherine slowly returns to public life following a tough year that saw her laying low as the princess received medical treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
Fans were overjoyed to see Kate step out at the engagement looking so good.
“It’s like the sun comes out when Catherine is taking part in engagements again,” one royal watcher said on Instagram.
Another gushed: “Hooray! Kate is back in our lives, but never left our hearts or thoughts. Welcome back, we love you.”

“It is so exciting to see the beautiful Princess of Wales blossom more and more every day!”
After meeting with Liz, who wanted to capture the ceremony as part of her photography bucket list, fans praised the royal mum-of-three for shining a spotlight on a fellow cancer patient.
“This is beautiful to see you using your story to help others,” said one royal watcher.
Liz was diagnosed with a desmoplastic small round cell tumour in January and her mother, Vicky, told the Daily Mail that her daughter has been given a prognosis of having just six months to three years left to live.

“The Prince found out about Liz through the London Air Ambulance Charity of which he is Patron and following the investiture both the Prince and princess of Wales met Liz privately with her family to hear about her day and journey,” a palace spokesperson said.
Kensington Palace also published several of the images taken by Liz on their official account which no doubt delighted the photographer to have her work seen by their 16 million plus audience.
Kate, who is also a very keen amateur photographer, had plenty to bond with Liz over.
“A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today,” the royals shared afterward.
“A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us.”
With the event being held just one day after Princess Beatrice announced she was expecting her second child, it looks like things are finally looking up for the Windsors.
