Queen Mary is home after the Danish palace confirmed that she and husband King Frederik were scheduled to make an official visit to Australia in 2026.
The trip will be the first since the couple ascended to the throne in Denmark in January 2024.
It will also be their first major royal tour to the country of the Queen’s birth in over a decade.

Are Queen Mary and King Frederik visiting Australian in 2026?
King Frederik and Queen Mary are carrying out a State Visit to Australia March 14 to 19.
After it was announced, the ongoing Middle East conflict triggered widespread global travel disruptions, so some adjustments were required to be made to the travel plans.
“The royal couple’s visit to Australia will be carried out with a few adjustments that will be announced later. The dates of the visit will not be changed,” a spokesperson said.
Being the only State Visit they will make to Australia during their reign, it is a history making moment.
“It’s kind of Mary’s victory lap, isn’t it?” Danish royal commentator Trine Villemann told WHO of her first royal tour since becoming Queen.
The trip will strengthen the relationship between Australia and Denmark with a focus on green transition and economic security.
“The state visit will further develop the already strong relations between Australia and Denmark, both culturally, economically and in foreign policy,” the palace said.
“A strengthened partnership with Australia is particularly important at a time when geopolitical upheavals have economic and security policy consequences that bind developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region together.”
Where to see Queen Mary and King Frederik in Australia
The State Visit will take place from March 14 to 19, with the first stop being to Uluru.
March 14/15 Uluru: The couple will arrive at Uluru in the late afternoon on Satuday, before being welcomed by the First Nations community at the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park Cultural Centre.
They will then watch the sunset over the natural wonder in the Northern Territory.
After spending the night, Their Majesties, accompanied by a guide, will visit Muṯitjulu Waterhole at sunrise. The site and surrounding landscape hold deep cultural and spiritual significance for Aṉangu people.
March 15/16 Canberra: After spending the morning at Uluru, the royals and their delegation will fly to Canberra.
In the nation’s capital, the King and Queen will be welcomed at Government House by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth, the Hon Ms Sam Mostyn.
This will be followed by a state banquet at Government House where Mary is expected to wear a tiara and the King will deliver a speech.
There will be an opportunity for royal fans to get up close with the King and Queen while they are in the ACT.
Mary and Frederik will greet members of the public at the Australian War Memorial Forecourt in Canberra on March 16.
The walkabout will take place just before 11am on the day, after they lay a wreath.
They will then have a busy afternoon of engagements at Parliament House, including meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Meeting with the Denmark-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group and attending the opening of the Danish-Australian Life Science Event.
March 17/18 Melbourne: On March 17, the King and Queen will be welcomed to Victoria by the state’s Governor, HE Professor the Hon Margaret Gardner AC and her partner, Professor Glyn Davis AC. This will be be followed by lunch with representatives from Danish and Australian business sectors.
The King and Queen will take a short walk in the Prahran redevelopment area, seeing examples of existing buildings, projects under construction, and completed sustainable housing.
Their Majesties will visit Port of Melbourne to explore the port’s role in the green transition and sustainable solutions in the maritime sector.
They will finish up their busy Tuesday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where Frederik and Mary will participate in an event with the Australian Football League (AFL), highlighting the shared sporting culture between Denmark and Australia, with a focus on Australian rules football.
March 19 Hobart: There will be one last chance for members of the public to meet the Queen in the city were she was born and raised.
The King and Queen will be greeting members of the public along Hunter Street, in Hobart’s waterfront area, from 4:30pm this Thursday.
Sydney is not on the agenda this time around despite Queen Mary living in Bondi Junction before she made the big move to Europe for love.
Queen Mary will also be expected to wear some Australian fashion on the visit, and is a big fan of labels such as Zimmermann, Moss and Spy and Rebecca Vallance.

When was Queen Mary last in Australia?
The couple have made several official visits Down Under in their roles as Crown Prince and Princess.
Their last tour was in 2013 when they came to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon.
Mary also visited for a day in April 2023, when she rode a bike through Sydney’s CBD to promote sustainable travel.
The Queen, who was born in Australia, has also made several private visits with her husband and children to visit relatives.
There was no word on whether their four children will join them this time.
