Queen Mary is coming home.
The Danish palace has confirmed that she and husband King Frederik are scheduled to make an official visit to Australia in 2026.
The trip will be the first since the couple ascended to the throne in Denmark in January 2024.
It will also be their first major royal tour to the country of the Queen’s birth in over a decade.
Here is everything you need to know about the royal pair’s upcoming trip…
Are Queen Mary and King Frederik visiting Australian in 2026?
On January 30, the Danish Palace confirmed the Queen and King are travelling Down Under in an official capacity.
Their visit will visit Australia from March 14 to 19 in what is a history making moment.
“It’s kind of Mary’s victory lap, isn’t it?” Danish royal commentator Trine Villemann told WHO of her first royal tour since becoming Queen.

The trip will strengthen the relationship between Australia and Denmark with a focus on green transition and economic security.
“The state visit will further develop the already strong relations between Australia and Denmark, both culturally, economically and in foreign policy,” the palace said.
“A strengthened partnership with Australia is particularly important at a time when geopolitical upheavals have economic and security policy consequences that bind developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region together.”
The official announcement from the palace confirmed what Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had let slip while appearing on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on January 19.
“Queen Mary is coming here!” he exclaimed to the hosts.
“It is quite exciting. Queen Mary and King Frederik. And I know [my wife] Jodie is very much looking forward to that visit let me tell you.”
When and where are Queen Mary and King Frederik visiting Australia?
The State Visit will take place from March 14 to 19.
While the palace are yet to share the full itinerary, the announcement was accompanied by an image of Uluru, which may hint to one stop high on the agenda.
Tasmania, where Mary was born and her father lives, is likely to be high on the agenda.
Sydney could also be on the itinerary as Queen Mary lived in Bondi Junction before she made the big move to Europe for love.

On past visits, they have met with victims of bushfires and toured organisations which have strong Danish-Australian links.
Queen Mary will also be expected to wear some Australian fashion on the visit, and is a big fan of labels such as Zimmermann, Moss and Spy and Rebecca Vallance.
This article will be updated with their official itinerary as more details are released.
When was Queen Mary last in Australia?
The couple have made several official visits Down Under in their roles as Crown Prince and Princess.
Their last tour was in 2013 when they came to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon.

Mary also visited for a day in April 2023, when she rode a bike through Sydney’s CBD to promote sustainable travel.
The Queen, who was born in Australia, has also made several private visits with her husband and children to visit relatives.
There was no word on whether their four children will join them this time.
