Speaking to WHO ahead of the show’s first episode, the former Bachelor star revealed he’s met the 31-year-old astrophysicist and he’s an absolute legend.

“I actually met Matt and he’s the best,” said Sam, who rose to fame in 2015 when he was announced as season three’s Bachelor. “Such a humble, smart, genuine guy.”

But will Dr Agnew find love with one of the many women vying for his heart? The personal trainer seems to think so.

“I have a feeling he’s going to be just fine and hope it works out as well as it worked out for us,” Sam said.

Despite expecting the birth of their third child any day now, Sam— who also dad to one-year-old daughter, Willow and 14-year-old daughter, Eve from Snez’s previous relationship— said his family will be tining in and cheering Matt on from their living room!

“We will be keeping an eye on it with our beautiful crazy family, that’s for sure,” the beloved reality TV star told WHO.

Hailed as “intelligent, genuine and determined to find a love that’s out of this world”, the 31-year-old astrophysicist says he’s ready and willing to fall in love!

“I’m still pinching myself that this is happening. It may be an unorthodox way to meet someone, but it’ll make for a cracking ‘how we met’ story,” Matt said of joining the show.

No doubt the most qualified Bachelor to join the hit series, Matt has a double undergraduate degree in science and engineering, and a masters in astrophysics. Soon to be Dr Agnew, he’s also a PhD candidate at the Swinburne University of Technology where he works in the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing.

But the Melbourne-based scientist says there’s one thing missing— a woman to share his life with!

“I’ve got a real ‘do it once, do it right’ mentality so I’ll be making sure I throw myself into it, be vulnerable and enjoy what comes from that. I think it’ll be a sensational experience!”

Earlier this week, WHO reported that Matt had actually caught Ten producers’ eye years before we even knew he existed. The reality TV star recently told TV Week that after a number of failed dates “through work, friends of friends, Tinder and Bumble,” he nearly made the cut for two previous seasons of The Bachelorette.

“I had applied [for The Bachelorette] in the past, but I was busy so I withdrew due to travel commitments and date clashes,” he revealed.

Given that Melbourne-based Matt admits he applied “two or three years ago” it is highly likely that he would have been a potential suitor for Georgia Love and Sophie Monk’s seasons of the reality show.

As viewers will remember, Georgia went on to find love with contestant Lee Elliott, while Sophie endured a short and ill-fated romance with winner Stu Laundy.

Get ready for the exciting new season, premiering on July 31!
