In the new wave of young tennis talent, 21-year-old Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz is definitely one to keep an eye out for on the court.
Beating Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt’s record, Carlos was crowned the youngest-ever world number one following his standout performance at the 2022 U.S. Open – becoming the first teenager to take the esteemed position.
Now, as world number three, Carlos is ready to take home the US Open with fans eagerly awaiting his return to the court.
Off the court, fans have also been keeping a close eye on Carlos’ life away from the sport, with many intrigued by the young star’s love life.
Does Carlos Alcaraz have a girlfriend?
In June 2023, Carlos confirmed he was single, telling The Sunday Times that he was “looking for someone.”
It came after the 21-year-old hinted at the difficulties of juggling a relationship and tennis career to Vogue, telling the publication that it was tricky keeping a romantic life when you’re constantly on the road. “It’s complicated, never staying in one place,” he said, adding: “It’s hard to find the person who can share things with you if you’re always in different parts of the world.”
His quotes come after fans linked him with another rising tennis star. Although their relationship was never confirmed, fans previously speculated that Carlos Alcaraz was in a relationship with Spanish tennis star Maria Gonzalez Gimenez.
While the rumoured couple kept the details of their romance out of the public eye, the Daily Mail did report that the pair have known each other since childhood, with both Carlos and Maria growing up in the Spanish village El Palmar, Murcia.
Speculation surrounding the pair’s relationship first began in late 2022 after Carlos shared a candid snap of him kissing Maria’s cheek to his Instagram story.
Despite sharing the first glimpse of their romance, both Carlos and Maria have refrained from sharing any further pictures together on their social media.
Prior to his rumoured relationship with Maria, Carlos was previously linked to Spanish singer Ana Mena.
According to Tennis Tonic, Spanish publication Hello! reported that the couple were briefly in a relationship for around two months, with the singer spotted in the crowd at Carlos’ match at the 2022 Madrid Open.
