What is Mid-Century Modern about?

Mid-Century Modern follows three gay best friends who, after an unexpected death, decide to move in together in Palm Springs.

The wealthiest of the group, Bunny Schneiderman, already lives there with his sharp-tongued mother, Sybil. As they navigate life, aging, and friendships, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it might be time for a little cosmetic tweak.

The series has been compared to The Golden Girls, but star Nathan Lee Graham insists it’s something entirely unique. Still, with its witty banter, tight-knit friendships, and setting, it’s easy to see why fans of the beloved ‘80s sitcom will be eager to tune in.

“You have three single guys coming together that happen to be homosexual, moving to one person’s place, so the similarities are going to be drawn,” he told Queerty‘s Michael Musto. “And it’s not a bad thing to be compared to. The show is its own thing, but it’s nice to be compared to something you truly love.”

Who is in Mid-Century Modern?

Nathan Lane leads the series as Bunny Schneiderman, the fabulously wealthy Palm Springs resident who opens his home to longtime friends Jerry Frank, played by Matt Bomer, and Arthur Broussard, played by Nathan Lee Graham. Rounding out the main cast is Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s razor-sharp and endlessly entertaining mother.

Beyond the core four, the series is stacked with guest stars, including Pamela Adlon, Vanessa Bayer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Judd Hirsch, Richard Kind, Billie Lourd, and Rhea Perlman.

Linda Lavin’s role as Sybil Schneiderman is especially significant, as it marks her final TV appearance before her passing in December 2024. The Emmy-winning actress, best known for her work on Alice and Broad City, brings her signature wit and impeccable comedic timing to the series, making it a fitting farewell to an incredible career.
