The Winchesters will follow Mary and John Winchester, Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents, and there ill even be a few appearances from one of the brothers too.

“Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester (Drake Rodger) met Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world,” Binge announced this week.

The only problem? Fans of the original show already know most of John and Mary’s story, including how it ends.

How does The Winchesters end?

Spoiler alert, but The Winchesters is guaranteed to end badly… for Mary, at least.

The very first episode of Supernatural begins with her gruesome death, which sees her pinned to the ceiling of her son Sam’s nursery as she bursts into flames in a terrifying attack.

Her husband John and eldest son Dean witness the horror and all three of the Winchester men become monster hunters as a result, searching for the demon who killed her.

As the early seasons progress, it’s revealed the demon Azazel killed Mary after she walked in on him putting demon blood in baby Sam’s mouth that night.

While The Winchesters may explore more of her backstory, there’s no getting around the fact that the show will have to end with Mary burning up on that roof.

What is The Winchesters about?

The Supernatural spin-off will follow Mary and John’s love story, but not the story we were told in the original series.

Trailers show the couple meeting in the ‘70s while Mary is hunting a demon and she almost immediately tells him she’s a hunter.

She then introduces him to her hunter friends and takes him along to learn the ropes as she searches for her own dad, Samuel Campbell, who has gone missing.

But in the original series, John had no idea about Mary’s background as a hunter until they’d been married for several years and already had a baby on the way.

It looks like the new spin-off will completely rewrite the couple’s story, leaving some fans irritated that it won’t line up with the existing Supernatural canon. Find out more about it here.

What do we know about John and Mary Winchester from Supernatural?

The Winchesters promises to explore John and Mary’s love story, but we also know an awful lot about that too.

In season four of Supernatural, Dean is sent back in time by the angel Castiel to see how his parents first became entangled with the demon Azazel, who plays a huge role in the show’s early seasons.

Sent to the 1970s, Dean meets a younger version of his father, John, who is completely unaware of the world of monsters, demons and hunters.

He also runs into mother Mary, who comes from a family of hunters but is hiding it from John. This shocks Dean, as he originally believed his mum had no clue about hunting.

Dean helps Mary work a case involving Azazel and wanrs her not to get involved with the demon, but just as John proposes to Mary, Azazel appears disguised as her father and kills John, before forcing her to make a terrible deal.

He promises to bring John back to life if she agrees to let him into her house one night in ten years’ time; the very night she dies.

Earlier in the episode, Dean begged his mother not to intervene that night in 1983, saying, “No matter what you hear or what you see, promise me you won’t get out of bed.”

But Mary agrees to the demon deal to get John back, sealing her fate.

She went on to marry John and give birth to Sam and Dean, with later Supernatural episodes revealing how she later confessed her identity as a hunter to her husband.

Episodes like “The Song Remains The Same” and “Dark Side Of The Moon” give insights into their marriage, which wasn’t always perfect, and how Mary worked to escape the life of a hunter.

She was also resurrected in season 11 of Supernatural (only to die again later), however it’s unlikely the new spin-off will touch on that time in her life.

The Winchesters will premiere on BINGE on October 12 – you can watch it (and all the original Supernatural seasons) live and on demand with a 14 day FREE trial. START FREE TRIAL.
