Last weekend, Abbie Chatfield sparked dating rumours with Nathan Favro when an eyewitness told WHO they were “all over each other” at Bondi Boost’s promotional event on Seadeck.

While Abbie later clarified that she and The Bachelorette star are just friends at this point in time, Matty J has weighed in on their flirtatious behaviour, claiming she was definitely “hamming it up” for the cameras.

“I thought the were definitely flirting,” The Bachelor alum told co-host Nat Bass during an episode of their podcast, The Babble.

“They were hamming it up. It was kind of weird though. But then Abbie said, ‘guys should we kiss?’… they were pretending to kiss so they were really hamming it up… I think they then continued posting back at someone’s house… They had obviously left the event together.”

Nat weighed in, brutally claiming: “It’s just like a cry for attention, it’s just like look at us, I don’t want to be in the media but here’s all the information required to get me into the media.”

Matty J then replied, “there’s one thing to be hanging out together and then there’s another thing to be pretending to kiss and being like, ‘Should we shouldn’t we?’ We’re onto you.

“She’s denying it saying they’re friends.”

After Abbie caught wind of his comments, the former Bachelor contestant unleashed in an emotional Instagram video, slamming Matty for passing judgement and calling her “attention-seeking”.

“I’m so sick of being spoken about like I’m a character that has nothing but evil motivations. You don’t know me, you clearly don’t even follow me on Instagram because the information here is incorrect. You’ve never experienced anything close to what I have in regard to media and public bullying. The lack of empathy and understanding is shocking,” Abbie said through tears.

She continued: “I still get called a villain, I still get called all these things and I’m f*cking over it, I get treated like a character. I’m not! Like I’m f*cking struggling so much right now, and I’m sorry this is f*cking insane to post but like please stop writing about me.”

While she clarified her rant wasn’t solely directed at Matt and Nat’s harsh comments, she used their discussion as a poignant example of the media creating a narrative that aligns with her “villain” persona— a reputation she gained after her controversial appearance on The Bachelor.
“I am so sick of people in the media literally just saying things because they think it goes along with the storyline that already exists.
“Obviously this isn’t all just Matty J or whoever this other person is [Nat], but I’m just dying that people don’t understand the snowball effect that this has for me. I really just want it to be over. Like it’s at a point where I can’t even create new friendships or anything like that because I’m scared people hate me.”

As we know, Abbie has copped the wrath of many angry Bachie viewers who took exception to her raucnhy behaviour on the hit dating series.

While she’s never been one to shy away from hitting back, after revealing she was beaten down and tired of being criticised and ridiculed, Lisa Wilkinson rushed to her defence.

Under a photo posted to her Instagram page with Matt and this year’s winner Chelsie McLeodThe Project host replied to a nasty user, saying, “Whatever you think of these shows, no-one deserves the next-level nastiness, the threats of violence, the vicious pile-on, and the mean girls mentality that has gone on around her— both on and off the show— just because she decided to run her own race.”

The mum-of-three continued: “She found him— and he clearly found her— sexually attractive. That was caught on camera but judging her, and not him, for taking part in that…is an attitude that belongs to the 1950s. Abbie is, clearly, heartbroken, and not the tough cookie she tried to portray in that final episode, so let’s all be mindful of that, at the very least.
