Three months on from his shock rejection by Bachelorette Georgia Love, Sydney-based marketing manager Matthew “Matty J” Johnson, 29, says he is still struggling to move on.

“You don’t want to get bogged down in the negativity of not winning, of being alone,” Johnson tells WHO.

“But watching the show back over the past weeks gave me a false sense of hope despite knowing the outcome.

“It’s like re-watching a movie that you know how it ends. You know, maybe Leo will actually make it off the Titanic!”

Johnson says he has taken solace in time spent with family and friends (including his baby nephew George, whom he was due to babysit the night after he spoke to WHO), throwing himself back into his job and lapping up sympathy from the public.

“I like talking to people,” Johnson says. “I like meeting people. I only get nervous when someone asks for a photo and a queue forms.

“It’s surreal to see people starstruck—because I haven’t done anything! I haven’t cured cancer, been in a movie or rescued someone. I just cried on TV.”
