The biggest blockbuster role Matthew McConaughey missed out on

And he thought he had it in the bag!

It’s hard to imagine anyone but Leonardo DiCaprio starring as Jack Dawson in the hit flick, Titanic.

But believe it or not, the ’90s heartthrob came up against some tough competition when it came to landing the lead role.

Last month, Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey opened up about his career on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, unexpectedly admitting that he was considered for the role of Jack, even auditioning for the part alongside Kate Winslet.

“I went and auditioned for that. I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet. Had a good audition. Walked away from there pretty confident that I had it,” The Dallas Buyers Club star, 49, said with a laugh.“I didn’t get it. I never got offered that. And as I’ve said before not even half jokingly if it’s true, if that was an offer and it didn’t come to me, I’ve got to go back and go, ‘I’ve got to meet in an alley with that agent.’”

While this news may come as a shock to some, last year Winslet revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that McConaughey was considered for the role, but she’s glad her close friend came out on top!

“I auditioned with Matthew, isn’t that weird?” Winslet said. “Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic. It just wouldn’t have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing.
