They were one of The Block‘s biggest fan-favourite couples when the season kicked off, but a few weeks in, it seems Adam and Jolene aren’t quite getting the same love from viewers.
The pair quickly won fans over with their self-described “bushie” personalities. Still, Adam’s increasingly competitive behaviour and Jolene’s matter-of-fact approach to renovations have left some viewers questioning whether the couple are really as wholesome as they first appeared.
While plenty of viewers are still gunning for the couple, praising their “down-to-earth” nature and Jolene’s “great taste in styling”, others admit their opinion has changed.
“I DID [like Adam and Jolene] — but I don’t like the way Adam has pinched stuff and misleads the others,” one fan wrote. “He hides it behind ‘haha, I’m just a larrikin’ but some of it is quite nasty.”
Another viewer was even more blunt, declaring: “[The] down-to-earth gimmick is tired”.

Jolene isn’t shying away from the criticism. Instead, she says viewers are simply seeing the real her.
“I am a straight shooter and I have a hard exterior because of life and growing up in the bush like I have,” Jolene told WHO. “I know there’s probably been a little bit of backlash about how I’m standoffish, but that’s just how I am.”
And when it comes to Adam? According to Jolene, viewers aren’t seeing anything artificial about his persona on The Block.
“We’re hard workers. Adam is the larrikin,” she said. “People ask me, ‘Is that exactly how he is all the time?’ Yes, that’s exactly how he is all the time. There are no surprises there.”

For Jolene, there’s no need to explain away their personalities or smooth out the rough edges for the cameras. What viewers see is simply who they are.
The pair have certainly divided viewers as the competition has heated up, particularly as Adam has embraced the more cut-throat side of the game. But Jolene doesn’t seem too concerned about winning over everyone.
They’re hard workers. Adam is the larrikin. And if that rubs some viewers the wrong way, so be it. With the competition now entering its final stretch, there’s still plenty of time for Adam and Jolene to win over the doubters, or give them something else to argue about.
