It’s early days on The Block, and the contestants are still playing nice at this point, with major rivalries yet to form. Having said that, we may have witnessed the beginning of one villain origin story on Tuesday night’s episode — or at least the beginning of his ‘Not-So-Mr-Nice-Guy’ origin story.
Rick, a 63-year-old builder (who is renovating the guest bedroom in House 5 with his daughter Tayla), was in a great position leading into the episode, saying he felt ahead on both his build and his budget thanks to his Melbourne-based trades.
However, in House 4, Lisa and Rosco’s progress stalled as they were waiting for the delivery of more ceiling batts so they could pass their insulation inspection.
Foreman Dan offered some advice, saying they should cut a deal with Rick and Tayla, who, despite also being short on batts, had other work to do and could wait for the delivery.
Rick generously agreed, and House 4 managed to almost catch up to everyone else.
However, the promised delivery ended up running late, meaning Rick and his team were unable to do any work and their progress came to a standstill something that Lisa and Rosco avoided in their own bedroom by borrowing from the competition.

Rosco said his stomach dropped when he realised that his ceiling was done, while Rick was forced to wait.
“We feel terrible that Rick and Tayla, they lent some of theirs to us,” Lisa added, with Rosco noting that he feels they now owe the father and daughter a favour in return.
“We were looking good this morning, but it’s not good,” Rick told the camera. “Being the nice guy has bit me in the ass.”
He added, “It’s not going to happen again.”
‘I’m just going to start playing the game’
Speaking to WHO about the debacle, Rick said, “Yeah, I was a nice guy in the first week. But I think in the end, I thought, s**t, I’m just going to start playing the game now because everybody else is playing the game.
“We got our installation, and put it behind us. You move on.”
With all of this year’s Block contestants living in one sharehouse, it will no doubt be interesting when rivalries begin to heat up!

Fans are starting to pick their favourites this season
Despite his very generous move, Rick hasn’t been picked out as a favourite online among fans.
Instead, viewers are saying how much they are “warming” to cattle station managers Adam and Jolene.
“They seem like good people!” one viewer said, while another agreed they love the “bushies”, who are currently living in the caravan parked in the backyard of the house shared by all the contestants.
Another team that fans are enjoying is Lisa and Rosco — the very pair who took the insulation from Rick!

Time will tell if this changes, but for now, it looks like the builder’s good deed has backfired on all fronts.
Justice for Rick!
