The creater of the Netflix ratings juggernaut The Crown said he expects they will temporarily shutdown production out of respect for late Queen.

Series creater Peter Morgan told Deadline he expects the show will “stop filming out of respect.” He also called it a “love letter” to The Queen.

Speaking with The Post earlier this year, a series insider revealed the show has its own ‘Operation London Bridge’, which is the protocol covering what will happen from the moment the queen dies up until her son, Prince Charles, is named King.

“We have our own version of Operation London Bridge,” they said.

“This is particularly pertinent for if we are filming. Filming will shut down immediately if we are in production, for at least a week.

“There would also be lots of discussion about when to restart.”

The Crown is set to release its fifth season later this year with Imelda Staunton acting as the third version of Queen Elizabeth.

In seasons prior, she has been played by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, showing how she aged across her reign.

The ending of the sixth season was recently revealed to have been changed to allow for a potential spin-off series about the younger royals – Prince William, Duchess Catherine, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

While the original ending had the series finish up in 2002, when the Queen lost both her mother and her sister, the re-written ending will have the series end in 2005, with the marriage of Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles.

“It’s a small but significant shift because it’s seen as marking the start of an era which becomes more focused on Princes William and Harry and their father,” a source told The Sun.

“The marriage of Charles and Camilla is treated like the end of one turbulent period in the Windsors’ story, and the start of a whole new one.”

While The Crown has had a complicated relationship with the royal family, the show has been praised for humanising the members of the Windsor family.

And their promise to shut down production for the death of the queen shows, ultimately, a great respect for the institution and family they’re recreating on screen.
