Serena Williams nearly broke the Internet with news that she and her fiancé Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child, noting that she’s “20 weeks” along.
The Twittersphere quickly did the math, and learned that the tennis great would have been about eight weeks pregnant when she won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open in January.
With that, the tweets, memes and gifs went flying on several social media platforms.
“Serena Williams is 20 weeks pregnant which means she won the Australian Open during pregnancy and didn’t drop a single set,” one Instagram user wrote on a photo of Williams’ famous finger-wag.
One Twitter user wrote: “Serena Williams won a grand slam while she was pregnant so every man should probably shut up about everything forever.”
Williams, 35, broke the news with a simple mirror selfie on Snapchat, writing, “20 weeks” — with her baby bump clearly visible.
A rep for the tennis star confirmed the pregnancy to WHO later on Wednesday, saying, “I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall.”
In true hilarious Twitter fashion, one user tweeted, “Serena Williams baby already has 2 grand slams.”
“In new ‘Serena Williams is one of the best Athletes of all time’ news, She won the Aus open while f—— pregnant. Stop doubting the Queen,” another tweeter posted.
Naturally, social media users uploaded some of the star’s most popular gifs to praise the athlete.
“Serena Williams (Greatest Tennis player ever) won the Australian Open with the future greatest tennis player ever inside her. ICONIC,” one person tweeted alongside a gif of Williams dancing.
ESPN’s Chris Fowler suggested that Williams’ feat raised the bar.
“Winning a slam title while NOT 2 mos. pregnant will never again seem quite so impressive,” he tweeted. “@serenawilliams always redefining what’s possible!”
The headline-making baby news comes a few months after the tennis great announced that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
