Whether you’re Michael Scott’s number one fan, a true Pam and Jim shipper or a Kelly Kapoor wannabe – odds are you watched at least a few episodes of the sitcom; which aired on NBC for 9 seasons between 2005 and 2010.

But is the show actually returning? This isn’t the first time the rumour mill has suggested the classic cast are getting back together, but with a new ensemble cast reportedly signing on for the sequel series, it sure does look promising!

Is The Office getting a reboot?

The Office showrunner and producer Greg Daniels has confirmed that a new revival of The Office is in the works, however, it will not be the reboot that many Dunder Mifflin fans expect.

“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot, because I feel like we ended that story beautifully… I would never want to redo that same show with a different cast, because I think we got the luckiest cast – the best cast ever… so the notion of a reboot is not of interest,” he told The Wrap in November 2023.

Greg also continued to explain that the new addition to The Office universe will serve as a sister show to the original series; drawing comparison to series such as The Mandalorian being an addition, not a reboot, to the story of Star Wars.

Who is the cast of The Office reboot?

While production on The Office reboot had been delayed as a result of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, it appears that two of the series’ new stars have been locked in.

Sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in April 2024 revealed that The White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore and Star Wars Sequel Trilogy star Domhnall Gleeson have reportedly signed on as part of The Office’s new ensemble cast.

Although official details have yet to be confirmed, it is unlikely that we will see a return of many of the original characters, however, some have previously expressed interest in reprising their roles.

The Office was absolutely everything to me,” John Krasinski told Esquire in 2020. ”It is my beginning and my end. I’m pretty sure at the end of my career, I’ll still be known for Jim.”

“In many ways, they will always be the most important people in that most important experience in my career. So yeah, if they did a reunion, I would absolutely love to do it,” he continued.

Speaking to Style Caster in 2021, Mindy Kaling also expressed her interest in returning to the franchise, telling the publication, “If Greg Daniels was in charge of it, I would be excited and supportive and try to help in any way I could.”

“It had to be the right person steering the ship, but if it was Greg, who was the mastermind of the American Office, it would be a great show.”

Will Steve Carrell be in The Office Reboot?

At this stage, it does not appear that Steve Carrell will reprise his role as Michael Scott, with the series reportedly introducing a new lineup of characters.

In 2022, Greg Daniels spoke to Collider about the notion of revisiting the original ensemble cast, stating, “I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it, and when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters.”

Steve also previously spoke about the idea of a reboot in 2018, revealing he “never thought of it as a good idea.”

“I think it existed in that time and with those people and it felt right. There was something so special about it, and I guess it’s an odd way to put it, but I love it too much to ever want to do it again. It’s too special to me in my heart in that period of time,” he told TIME Magazine.
