They’ve each dealt with multiple heartbreaks over the past 12 months, including the loss of a pregnancy and a high-profile break up. But for Lisa and Jess Origliasso, aka The Veronicas, nothing has hit harder than their beloved mother’s waning health.

The 35-year-old twins took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday to share that they’d been forced to move their upcoming 15th-anniversary show to be by her bedside.

“We have made the decision to postpone our acoustic shows on November 18 in Sydney and move them to 2021,” they told their 136k followers.

“We are needed back home in Brisbane to be with our Mummy, and due to COVID restrictions, we have left Sydney and started our Quarantine in Byron Bay.”

They went on to explain that they would be refunding all the tickets that had been purchased and putting on a “replacement” gig in Byron on November 17th.

“It will be as acoustic and as intimate as we can get with our clothes on,” the continued the post.

“We know most of you understand that this is a deeply sensitive time for our family that requires priority.”

Their 71-year-old mum Colleen was recently diagnosed with Lewy body dementia – a condition that slowly deteriorates the brain, affecting thinking, memory and movement.

In an emotional interview with radio show B105FM during National Carer’s Week back in October, Jess and Lisa revealed that they’d been her primary carer for the past while.

“We are in awe every day of this woman,” they said. “Just our absolute hero, and to be able to care for her, give back to her even a tiny bit of the love she has thrown us throughout our lives is an absolute honour… but it is incredibly difficult work.”

“It’s heartbreaking. You’re grieving. Your best friend, your mummy… and you know the statistics. There are 2.6 million unpaid carers in Australia and a lot of them don’t even realise they are carers.”

They went on to give a shout out to those in a similar boat: “If you are someone who is caring for a loved one – a friend or family member – that we see you and thank you for everything you’re doing.”

The news comes just a fortnight after Jessica announced her split with her fiancé Kai Carlton. Via Instagram, the singer hinted that the American musician had dumped her out of the blue.

The couple had been doing long-distance between Los Angeles and Brisbane over the last eight months, with Jess admitting the COVID travel restrictions had made their relationship “difficult.”

“To all the souls messaging me about Kai – we are no longer together,” she wrote, adding that she was “not afforded any real explanation” for the breakup.

“While I appreciate your concern, as much of our relationship was on social media, I don’t know what to say except that I wish to put this behind me, and I am lucky to have people who love me to support me through this time x.”

Meanwhile, Lisa had been battling a devastating loss of her own. In an emotional social media post earlier in 2020, she told fans that she’d suffered from an ectopic pregnancy – a potentially life-threatening condition where a fertilised egg implants outside of the uterus.

Just two weeks after finding out she was expecting her first child with husband Logan Huffman, the Untouched hitmaker began to experience excessive bleeding.

“My heart sank and I knew something was wrong,” Lisa recalled. “I needed urgent medical attention to prevent it from becoming critical. I was immediately admitted to hospital. Sometimes in life no matter which way we step, no matter what choice we make, we’re destined to hurt.”

“I was told I was just one of the ‘really unlucky ones’ But I can not see that as truth,” she added. “It’s been some of the darkest times of our lives yes, but it’s also been some of the happiest.”

Lisa and Logan wed in November 2018 on the Sunshine Coast. Jess was one of her bridesmaids.
