Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres about his upcoming movie, The Nice Guys, Russell told the talk show host they’d only met once before filming and it wasn’t for the intimate gathering he’d originally pitched the meeting as.

Upon hearing that she would have the opportunity to meet Ryan Gosling and his partner, presumably the mother of his two children Eva Mendes, Danielle wasted no time in extending the invitation to her closest girlfriends, all twelve of them and her mother!

“I said (to Danielle) on this date we’re going to have dinner with Ryan Gosling”, he told Ellen. “On the day I was talking to her and she’d invited twelve of her girlfriends.

“So I’d sold this idea to Ryan that he’s going to be having this little intimate dinner and I’ve got my wife and twelve of her girlfriends, including her mother.”  To which the audience burst into laughter. “And I thought no you can’t have him walk into the room with his girlfriend and then there’s like 16 women…so I started calling blokes.”

All of a sudden the intimate dinner proposed by Crowe turned into a party of grand-final proportions.

Ryan spoke of hanging out with Russell only once during the filming of the movie at a bar owned by the Academy Award Winner where the Rabbitoh’s were playing and the drinks were flowing.

“I sat down next to him and there was a big ice chest of ginger beer and a big ice chest of vodka and he just kept me pouring the drinks”, he told Jimmy Kimmel.

Although Ryan wasn’t as big a fan of the Rabbitoh’s as Crowe, luckily they share a sense of humour, which enabled them to bond quickly on their new movie, The Nice Guys. It helped that both are parents who have a reputation for dramatic character acting and meticulous preparation.

Ryan also made reference to the birth of his daughter on Jimmy Kimmel, recalling how legendary comedian Don Rickles gifted him a Toys R Us voucher to celebrate the occasion. The father or two didn’t elaborate if the gift was for Esmeralda or Amada.

Speaking of his daughter he also recently said in an interview with PEOPLE, “I didn’t know life could be this great or this fun.”
