There’s a bizarre rumour circulating that suggests Grimes and Elon Musk are planning to name their unborn child, Influenza. I repeat, Influenza.

Fans of the Canadian musician and co-founder and CEO of Tesla went into meltdown mode when fake news site, World Grey, reported they’d selected the unique name to commemorate the Coronavirus pandemic.
The article was titled, ‘Grimes named her child WHAT’ and included a false BBC News logo and fake quotes from the artist unveiling their baby’s name.
To make matters worse and even more believable, Twitter account Pop Base— which boasts 24, 000 followers— shared the inaccurate online article which racked up more than 25, 000 likes. It was also retweeted over 2, 400 times.
While the quirky singer is yet to clear or address the hoax, after months of speculation, she confirmed in March that her entrepreneur boyfriend was the father of her unborn child.
In an interesting interview with Rolling Stone, Grimes— whose real name is Claire Boucher— discussed the meaning behind her new track, “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth,” admitting it’s about “the sort of tragedy” of getting pregnant.
“Even though it’s this great thing for a girl, it’s sacrificing your body and your freedom,” she said.
“It’s a pretty crazy sacrifice and only half of the population has to do it. It was really profound to me when I decided I was going to do it, to actually go through the act of, like, y’know, unprotected sex. I’m just like, I have sacrificed my power in this moment. I have, like, capitulated. And I have spent my whole life avoiding that situation. I have never capitulated to anything, so it was just a profound commitment.
“I do actually just really love my boyfriend,” she added. “So I was like, ‘You know, sure.’”
While she’s notoriously private about their relationship, the musician also spilled on her two-year-long romance with the SpaceX founder— who has a net worth of 39.5 billion USD— saying they’ve been in a period of growth.
“No one believes me about this, but I just did not understand what I was getting into at all. Not that I’m mad about it. I just didn’t think it would be a thing. The s**t that’s happened with my boyfriend this year has overwritten so much of my life’s work.”
Grimes announced her pregnancy in January 2020, sharing a NSFW Instagram post which was removed due to a nudity violation. The photo showed the star staring at the camera while sporting four orange and black braids which covered her breasts. It also included a ghostly baby which was superimposed over her naked stomach.
While the picture’s caption did not mention her bulging baby bump, she confirmed she was expecting in the comments section of her post.
“I thought about censoring them for a hot minute haha (this may get taken down anyway) but the photo is so much less feral without the nipples,” she wrote. “Plus being knocked up is a very feral and war-like state of being. Might as well be what it is.”
“Plus most of my friends told me not to post them so then I was afflicted with reverse psychology. Interrogated my shame on it and decided it was some weird internalised self-hatred to feel uncomfortable about my body. Hope you’re having a nice day!”
