Will I regret this? Probably.

Anyone completely intrigued by the new Verity trailer we just got? Well, clearly, otherwise why else would you be here?

As soon as I saw the cast and the twisted clips in the two-and-a-half-minute-long trailer, I knew I’d be first in line to watch this film.

Echoing themes of The Housemaid — which Amanda Seyfried absolutely carried, by the way — Verity is already impressive.

That’s because I love a thriller with unpredictable twists, and Verity carries them in spades.

Now, as any self-proclaimed bibliophile would do, I immediately went to the source material: the Verity novel by Colleen Hoover. It was high time I finally read it.

Thankfully, a friend had a copy for me to borrow, and I started reading that very day. Only four chapters in, and I’m already hooked.

It helps to picture the characters as their on-screen cast — Dakota Johnson is a brilliant Lowen, and Josh Hartnett? He very well fits the bill for a handsome lead.

And don’t even get me started with Anne Hathaway as Verity.

What is Verity about?

Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who gets hired to finish the remaining books in a wildly popular series after its author, Verity Crawford, is left unable to write following a serious accident.

Lowen moves into the Crawford household (at the request of Verity’s husband, Jeremy) to sort through Verity’s notes and research — and that’s where things start getting deeply unsettling.

She stumbles across something Verity never meant for anyone to find, and from there it spirals into this twisted psychological thriller about trust, obsession, and how well we ever really know anyone.

And as someone who loves an unreliable narrator (my favourite book is The Secret History, after all), dark family secrets, and pages that make you put the book down and look around your empty room in shock — exactly why I’m not surprised it’s getting the movie treatment.

When does Verity the movie release?

Good news, you won’t have long to wait! Verity hits theaters on October 2, 2026.

It was actually originally set for May 15, 2026, but Amazon MGM Studios pushed it to give it more of a Halloween-season slot — fitting, honestly, given how unsettling that trailer is.

So you’ve got a bit of time to finish the book before it drops. Speaking of which…
