Just when we thought we couldn’t get enough of Colleen Hoover’s work, the author is set to add another film to her book-to-screen repertoire, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming in early 2024 that pre-production was underway on the cinematic release of her romance-thriller novel Verity.
Taking to social media to confirm the news, Colleen wrote, “So excited for this one! @amazonmgmstudios announced that Verity is officially in the works!”
After deep diving through social media fan casts and theories on who would be leading her second screen adaptation, we *finally* know who will be leading the film as Verity, Lowden, and Jeremy. Here’s what we know so far.

When is the Verity movie release date?
After months and months of waiting, Amazon MGM Studios *finally* confirmed when we will see Colleen’s latest adaptation hit the screen, with the production company announcing the film will debut in cinemas on May 15, 2026.
Who is the cast of Verity?
Just over one month after confirming the news that Anne Hathaway will be joining the cast as the film’s title character, Verity Crawford, Rolling Stone revealed that Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson and Oppenheimer’s Josh Hartnett have also signed on for the film.
According to the publication, Dakota will portray the role of Verity’s ghostwriter Lowen Ashleigh, while Josh will star alongside Anne as her on-screen husband, Jeremy Crawford.
While the rest of the cast list has yet to be confirmed, we do know that the film will be directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Anne on the 2024 viral film The Idea of You.

Chucky Executive Producer Alex Hedlund and Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca have also reportedly joined the film as producers, bringing a wealth of horror production experience to the author’s first on-screen thriller.
News of Colleen Hoover’s latest partnership with Amazon MGM Studios follows the headline-making release of her first film adaptation, It Ends With Us.
The film, which stars Blake Lively and Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni, received a less-than-glowing score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans and critics alike criticising the film’s portrayal of themes of domestic violence and abuse.
What is Verity about?
Self-published by Colleen Hoover in 2018, Verity centres around the character of Lowen Ashleigh – a struggling writer tasked with completing bestselling author Verity Crawford’s new novel series after she was involved in an accident.
As she delves deeper into Verity’s home, Lowen stumbles upon a manuscript that reveals chilling truths about Verity’s life and marriage to her husband Jeremy, leading her to become ensnared in a web of manipulation and deceit.
As the story progresses, Verity finds herself in an intense moral dilemma, forcing her to reconcile between what actions are ethically just and what best feeds her desires.

Where to watch Verity
While we may still have over a year to wait until the film’s release, we can anticipate that Verity will be available to stream exclusively through Prime Video.
