If you’re looking for some true crime for your weekend watch, we have one gripping mystery for you.
Available now on Disney Plus, Candy follows the true story of Candy Montgomery, a woman who was accused of murder back in 1980.
While we’re all still not 100 per cent sure what went down between Candy and her dead neighbour, the story that intertwines them falls into the perfect femme fatale narrative that always makes for a juicy crime drama.
Here’s everything you need to know about Candy.

What is Candy about?
Candy is based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, who stood trial for the murder of her neighbour and friend, Betty Gore, in 1980.
Betty and Candy were members of the same church group, and their kids were friends, with Candy’s daughter often sleeping over at the Gore household.
However, a supposed lull in Candy’s marriage to her husband, Pat, caused her to seek out ‘transactional sex’. She wanted to have an affair, and when she collided with Betty’s husband, Allan, in a church volleyball game, she thought he might be the best choice for her.
You can guess much of the rest, but it ends with a bloody axe murder and a tense trial – which will keep you questioning long after the five-episode series ends.

Who stars in Candy?
Jessica Biel is a big name for the limited series, the talented actress taking on the role of Candy. The costuming department also do a fantastic job – you’ll barely recognise her behind the tight curls and big, 1980s-style glasses she’s sporting for the series.
Murder victim Betty is played by Melanie Lynskey, who recently re-established her career in the mysterious TV show Yellowjackets.
Pablo Schreiber and Timothy Simons play their husbands, Allan Gore and Pat Montgomery, respectively.
And you’ll also recognise the face of Deputy Steve Deffibaugh – Justin Timberlake takes on the role to star alongside his wife.

Will there be a second series of Candy?
We love this show all the more because of how easy it is to devour and recommend.
The five-episode limited series is just that, limited. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see any more of Jessica Biel in this role, but you can feel satisfied knowing you’ll be across the story in the space of a weekend, or however long it takes you to binge the episodes.
