We had six Rocky films to keep us entertained all through the 70s right through to the early 2000s, and now the Creed franchise is catching up with the release of its third instalment, Creed III.
Released in theatres on March 3 this year, Creed III brings about another epic face-off that aims to have us firmly planted on the edge of our seats.
In an interview with Metro, Sylvester Stallone, who famously played Rocky Balboa in the original franchise, said that Creed III is “really interesting” and that it heads in a “different direction”.
Here, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the third Creed film, including where you can stream it online.
What is Creed about?
The Rocky spin-off follows the boxing career of Adonis Creed, the son of former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died in the ring after going up against Ivan Drago in the fourth Rocky film.
While the first film, Creed, is all about Adonis’ early attempts to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a boxing legend in his own right, the second instalment is a parallel plot of Rocky IV as Adonis fights the son of the man who killed his father, Viktor Drago.
The third instalment however, directed by Michael B. Jordan, introduces a new character who is a friend-turned-foe for Adonis, seven years after he cemented himself in the world of boxing.
Who is cast in Creed III?
Creed III sees the return of favourites like Michael B. Jordan as Adonis ‘Donnie’ Creed, Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Wood Harris as Tony Evers and Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago.
Jonathan Majors takes on the new role of Damian, who is Adonis’ boxing opponent and former friend. Selenis Leyva, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Spence Moore II, and Mila Davis-Kent also star in the film.
Notably absent from the cast list is Sylvester Stallone, who did not reprise his role as Rocky Balboa, though he was still involved behind the scenes.
