“Hair filler is a technique used to thicken, add volume or enhance the colour of your hair,” hairdresser and celebrity hair stylist Remington Schulz told Elle Australia.
“The idea is to naturally enhance the client’s look by adding just a few extensions at an affordable price.” Unlike standard extensions, hair filler is all about targeted placement to create a fuller effect."
Application
Hair extensions and filler are personalised services – there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.
“It’s not until your client sits in your chair that you can recommend how many bonds [are needed] and where they need to be placed,” Schulz said.
The time and cost of hair filler will vary from salon to salon, with prices ranging from $200 to $800 and above. Every hair extension type is different, from the quality of the hair to the way the hair extension is applied and how many bonds you need will always be discussed during your consultation with your hairdresser.
TIP: Just like standard extensions, the application can take some time, so factor this in when you make a booking.

Consider your hair type
The reality is that not everyone is blessed with hair as thick as Blake Lively’s, and some of us want a little something extra to help us feel our best.
“This look is for every client looking to enhance their hair, whether it be for fullness or colour,” Schulz explained.
It’s particularly ideal for women who have naturally fine hair, thinning hair or who may have experienced hair loss. In the places your hair is baby fine, your hairdresser may opt for mini bonds to reduce tension and minimise weight. They’re also suitable for some women with alopecia, although your hairdresser will always be able to recommend what’s best.
TIP: Be sure to talk your hairdresser through your hair routine so that they can make sure your extensions will suit your everyday styling.

This technique should not damage your hair if you seek out a professional who works with high-quality extensions. But to maintain a healthy set of strands, you’re going to need a few tools and products at your disposal, including a scalp brush.
