The former couple announced their separation via Instagram on April 27, confirming their split was amicable— a claim that's clearly been debunked in the last 24 hours.
"With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of," Kristen wrote alongside a photo of the duo walking arm-in-arm together through Sayulita, Mexico.
Kristen continued: "This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family."
Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay also shared the same statement on his Instagram account alongside a black-and-white image of him and Kristen.
Kristen has always been vocal about the highs and lows of marriage, revealing on her TV show in April 2019 that their relationship was at an all-time low.
"Jay has been great, yes. From the outside, like, things are so perfect and things are so great," she said in a confessional. "But actually, like, they're not. And that sucks. It sucks. That’s the thing, though, with marriage -- it's ups and downs. That's how we've always been, our whole relationship. It is what it is.
She added: "Jay and I have problems. We have to work at our relationship. We definitely have issues."
Last year, their romance was also plagued by rumours Kristen's best friend, Kelly Henderson, had secretly hooked up with Jay while she was out of town. The demise of their friendship was shown on-screen along with the former couple's dumbfounded reaction to the unexpected accusation.
"When season two was airing, there was a lot of talk on social media about Jay and Kelly having an affair. Not for one second have I ever thought that it was true," Kristin said, adding her husband vehemently denied sleeping with Kelly.
"It wasn't the actual accusations of them having an affair that made me upset, it was how Kelly went about it."
