Regulatory body Food Standards Australia New Zealand has issued a recall today for a series of egg lines carried by supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths, over concerns about possible salmonella contamination.

According to New Idea Food, the ranges affected are Woolworths 12 Cage Free Eggs 700g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 600g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 700g, and Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 800g in the ACT, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. Plus, also affected are Loddon Valley Barn Laid 600g, in Victoria and SA.
Affected ‘Best before’ dates are: 20 MAR 19, 23 MAR 19, 27 MAR 19, 30 MAR 19, 3 APR 19, 6 APR 19, 10 APR 19, 14 APR 19, 17 APR 19, 20 APR 19, 24 APR 19, 27 APR 19, 29 APR 19.
It should be noted that salmonella symptoms can take between six and 72 hours to develop, and can last between three and seven days. There are particular concerns for pregnant women, young children and those with compromised immune systems.
Symptoms may include fever, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, headache, stomach, cramps, nausea and vomiting.
