AFTER hearing so much about an ultra-hip luxury Thai hotel for music lovers, I decided I had to see this property for myself.
Thailand’s largest island of Phuket has no shortage of hot spots and high-end hotel offerings, depending on your preference, but for an all-out Ibiza-style experience, Baba Beach Club didn’t disappoint.
This modern and sophisticated hotel, located in the Khok Kloi area, boasts a range of villas overlooking the pool or jungle—a promising welcome – and after checking in, I was shown to my one bedroom villa.
Opening the French doors and looking out over the illuminated pool, I felt any tension in my shoulders melt away. Mellow house/bossa tunes from the DJ waft over—an immediate hint of what sets this unique Phuket hotel apart from the competition.
It took almost all of my willpower to pry myself away from my stylish state-of-the-art digs – with controlled panel mood lighting, a two-person bath and enormous bed – and head over to the pool at the property’s heart to listen to some tunes.
I was surprised to see only a few other guests enjoying the music, but the staff were quick to inform me that it was Sunday and that Saturday was the big party night. Noted for next time.
Early the following day, I go for a walk along the resort’s pristine beach before joining other guests on a luxury boat trip to the nearby islands. With boats at their disposal, the resort can tailor a day of sailing experiences to your choosing.
The highlight was a visit to the floating fishing village of Ko Panyee, where I had the most memorable seafood lunch of stir-fried crab, grilled tiger prawns and Tom Kha Goong.
Back at Baba Beach Club, we jump into the pool and swim straight to the swim-up bar for some well-deserved margaritas, eventually continuing our cocktail drinking session by the beach to watch the spectacular sunset over the Andaman Sea; an incredible afternoon to cap off an already brilliant day in Phuket.
