River Romance

If you’re planning a long weekend in Batemans Bay, Lincoln Downs is delightful refuge. Stroll around the Sunday Markets (first and third Sundays of every month from November to Jan) then head back to the Downs and refuel with something from the specials board. What about Tomato Chilli Mussels, Prawn Twisters or Beef Wellington with Mash? Afternoons are made for relaxing in the English-style gardens which is a welcome respite after exploring the Batemans Bay Snorkelling Trail.

Dog-friendly

When you want to get away but bring the whole family – including Fido the dog, Shady Willows YHAhas three pet-friendly cabins to suit your needs. As long as your dog is kept on a leash and you scoop the poop, this YHA welcomes small well-behaved pooches with open arms. For those who are dog-free and want to venture into town, the local bus stops right outside so you can hop on off for a day at the beach and enjoy a beer or wine in town without taking the car.

Degustation Delight

Make a quick Nespresso then head out early and hire a bike or kayak to explore the Bay, or, simply head out for a leisurely walk. Whatever you decide, Quays Hotel is a great place to stay with a mid-range price tag. Be sure to reserve a table for the six-course Japanese-French inspired degustation dinner at in-house restaurant Sandbar. Think Octopus, Daikon and Chilled Kombu Tea followed by Barramudi, Leek Puree, Rocket Tarragon Jus and Yuzu, each course with wines to match. Seriously worth the 4-hour drive from Sydney.
