WITH more than 70 per cent of Instagram’s content travel-related, social media has become a source of inspiration for millions of travellers around the world.
Travel site Expedia’s 2018 social media and travel report, #LikeToTravel, suggested one in four Millennials and Gen X travellers pick holiday destinations based on what they see on their social media feed on a day-to-day basis.
Not only do Millennials look to Instagram for travel inspiration, they also heavily research how good a destination will look on their Instagram feeds before they book their trip, with 67 per cent stating “Instagrammability” is the most important factor when deciding on a holiday destination.
With that mind, we’ve compiled a list of the top five Instagrammable spots for 2019. You’re welcome!
To Sua Ocean Trench, Samoa
Known as the world’s most beautiful swimming hole, the 35-metre deep ocean trench, located in the village of Lotofaga on the southeast coast of Samoan island of Upolu, was formed when volcanoes erupted on the island and much of the ground fell away.
With its turquoise water, moss covered rock walls and overhanging native trees, we can confirm To Sua is every bit as breathtaking as the pictures suggest.
Queenstown, New Zealand
SITTING on Lake Wakatipu surrounded by the Remarkables Mountain Ranges, this South Island alpine town is a snap-happy traveller’s dream.
Hailed as New Zealand’s adventure capital, Queenstown has long attracted adrenalin junkies but its staggering natural beauty, food scene and surrounding Central Otago wine region also make it one of the world’s most desirable towns for everyone.
Matera, Italy
Move over Rome and Venice; Italy’s oldest town is having a moment.
Once a city of poverty and squalor, this hilltop gem in the southern Basilicata region, the third-oldest continually inhabited settlement in the world, is enjoying a tourist boom thanks to picturesque cave-filled cliffs, its rich history and its labyrinthine cobblestone streets.
Uzbekistan
The Central Asian nation’s decision to simplify their visa process means this previously unknown destination will be one of the most fascinating – and photogenic – destinations to visit in 2019.
With its historic architecture, history and dazzling mosques, Uzbekistan, which was freed from Russian rule in 1991, has a long history with travel, as three of its cities – Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva – were important stops on the ancient Silk Road route which connected east and west.
Reine, Norway
WITH its traditional red and white fishermen’s cabins dotting the shoreline and majestic mountain surrounds, this quiet fishing hamlet is one of the world’s most beautiful villages.
Nestled on the island of Moskenesøya on northern Norway’s Lofoten archipelago, Reine is the perfect place to experience the magical Northern Lights from Bunes Beach and enjoy hiking, skiing, fishing, ocean rafting or scuba diving.
