But there’s another reason to visit the beautiful Lady Elliot Island which is situated at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. The island’s award-winning eco-resort has recently launched the newest innovation in ‘glamping’ with two sustainable Eco Tents sheltered amongst the natural flora of the island.

The Eco Tents are right near the shore so you watch turtles lay their eggs from your secluded decking as you enjoy a sunset drink and soak up the beachside atmosphere. The accommodation is simple and comfortable and perfect for a digital detox; there’s no phones, television or internet.

There’s a lot to do of course, snorkelling or scuba-diving will probably be at the top of the list and there’s simply no better place to do it than here. For those who want to see the reef without getting wet, there are glass bottom boat tours that operate regularly.
