Bubby’s
Some go to New York for bagels but a true American experience would not be complete without a visit to a diner and Bubby’s is our spot.
Located in the Meatpacking District, just across from the High Line and a stone’s throw from the Hudson, Bubby’s is always packed full of locals and in-the-know tourists who come for the pancakes, drenched with blueberries, banana and walnuts, chocolate chips and whipped cream or Nutella. Better yet, get a flight of pancakes for a variety.
The meals are HUGE so I suggest getting a couple and sharing with a group.
Sneakersnstuff
Sure, Fifth Avenue is fun but the Meatpacking District is the locale for boutique shopping.
Located on the west side of Manhattan, this hip borough has beautifully restored cobblestone streets lined with galleries, restaurants and designer and high fashion stores.
Sneakersnstuff – the ultra-cool shoe and clothing boutique I’ve been following on Instagram for a year – deserves a mention. Inside you’ll find one-off sneakers and capsule collection clothes for both men and women.

If it’s good enough for Drake, it’s good enough for me.
This upscale shisha bar and restaurant on the Lower East Side is a cool after dinner spot to drink and smoke shisha to the sounds of RnB.
It’s not just Drake who hangs out here; you’re just as likely to be rubbing shoulders with players from the New York Knicks and visiting basketball teams.
A tipple at The Top of the Standard
Service all of your Gatsby dreams by going for a pre-drink [or many drinks] at The Top of the Standard, located in the Standard hotel in the Meatpacking District.
You’ll get 360-degree views of the city skyline and out over the Hudson River.
The décor is over-the-top and absolutely fabulous, the service is impeccable and the loos have floor-to-ceiling glass windows so you can do your business while admiring the iconic cityscape.

TIP
You HAVE to tip in New York. Anything less than 15 per cent is frowned upon. We tipped everywhere BUT The Mercer kitchen in Soho as the service was terrible.
If it’s peak hour, take the subway. Getting a cab in the rain at peak hour is a character building exercise you needn’t subject yourself to.
