However, one exclusive Bali resort has drawn a line in the sand, banning guests from using their smartphones and cameras around one of its swimming pools between 9am and 5pm as part of its In The Moment campaign, which encourages people to enjoy their experience without electronics.

AYANA Resort and Spa Bali has introduced a strict ‘no calls, no texts and no social media’ policy around its River Pool, instructing people to store their devices in nearby lockers, disconnect from social media and re-connect with the ones they love, and fellow guests.

“Our intention is to preserve who we are by valuing human connection and me-time,” spokesman for the Ayana resort told Lonely Planet News.

For travellers not ready for a digital detox, the five-star resort, perched above Jimbaran Bay, allows guests to use smartphones at its 11 other swimming pools, including the famous Ocean Beach Pool.
