This city is Australia’s top destination for 2019

Sydney has officially won the hearts of world travellers

WITH its world famous harbour, iconic attractions and scenic beaches, Sydney has been named as the top destination for Australia and the South Pacific for the third consecutive year.

The Habour City beat Queensland’s Gold Coast and cultural capital Melbourne, which came in at second and third respectively, while London was named as the top destination in the world in travel site TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards for 2019.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations across the globe, gathered over a 12-month period, as well as traveller booking interest on TripAdvisor.

“Sydney’s third consecutive win just goes to show how much of a favourite it is among our global community of travellers,” said Janice Lee Fang, TripAdvisor’s Asia Pacific communications director.

“Our Travellers’ Choice awards for destinations recognise key cities and islands that offer an exceptional experience all year round.”

She recommended visiting the New South Wales capital during shoulder or off-peak seasons in a bid to take advantage of competitive prices and fewer crowds.

With its 21 beaches, lush hinterland and theme parks, it’s no surprise Queensland’s Gold Coast was also hugely popular with travellers.

Internationally, the vibrant metropolis of London took the top honour of best destination in the world followed by Paris, Rome, Crete, Bali and Phuket.
