According to research by Finder, physical health is the top priority for Aussies going into 2026, with 25 per cent wanting to drop weight.

While the road to improving your health and fitness isn’t always easy, we asked TerryWhite Chemmart Clare’s Chief Pharmacist, Tim Siv, for weight loss advice that will actually stick.

Is losing weight as simple as eating less and moving more?

Yes and no. Reducing energy intake and increasing activity levels are important, but long-term weight management can be more complex.

While you can lose or gain weight relatively quickly, your body’s baseline takes longer to adjust, which affects your metabolism and hunger hormones.

This, in turn, can make habits harder to break. It’s also important to remember that healthy bodies can come in many shapes and weights.

Focusing on overall wellbeing, rather than just the number on the scale, is key.

How to stay on track with weight loss goals:

Setting SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound) goals works well for weight loss because they help turn vague hopes into something clear, realistic and trackable.

While statements like, “I want to lose weight,” are valid, SMART goals like, “I want to lose 15kg in 24 weeks by tracking my meals and walking at least 30 minutes five times a week,” can help you stay grounded and celebrate progress.

How do I know if medical weight loss is right for me?

Prescription weight loss medications are not suitable for everyone and may depend on your age, lifestyle factors, medical history and weight-loss goals.

Our telehealth medical weight-loss consultation offers confidential access to a medical practitioner who can assess the suitability of these prescription weight-loss medications for you.

You’ll complete a pre-assessment about your health, talk to a doctor that day and, if suitable, receive a prescription you can fill at your local TerryWhite Chemmart.
