Irena, who is a vegan and also a coeliac, has been cooking up a storm for her boyfriend in their hotel room, showing him that going without animal products doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless.
Locky has committed to going vegan for the two-week quarantine period and admitted he was blown away by Irena’s vegan cooking.
“I am going vegan for the two weeks of iso, but man this girl can cook up a storm,” Locky wrote on his Instagram Stories, revealing the vegan pasta bolognese and salad dinner Irena cooked for the pair on Sunday.
“I have never eaten to many veggies and fruits in my life, but I am liking it so far. Every meal is full of flavour.”
He admitted he certainly didn’t miss the meat from his meal and couldn’t taste any difference.
“Couldn’t even taste anything different from the vegan bolognese. Got myself a bloody good cook.”
Posting a photo of her creation to her own Instagram Stories, Irena said, “Locky couldn’t tell that this was vegan.”
Irena has previously opened up about her vegan diet to fans, revealing she feels much healthier when she sticks to a plant-based diet.
“I am a vegan, I went vegan four years ago. I’m also a coeliac. Since changing my diet I have found that my iron levels are better, my weight is more consistent and I have so much more energy,” she recently revealed in an Instagram Q&A session.
During an interview with Body & Soul, Irena explained sticking to a healthy diet helps keep her energy levels high during her long hospital shifts.
“Because of my work schedule and shift work, my routine is different every day,” the anaesthetic and recovery nurse revealed.
“I always start my day with my almond latte - I’m a total caffeine addict. Then I don’t really eat until lunch. Lunch is always my biggest meal, typically rice with Mexican beans and salsa, and dinner would be a salad with some tofu that I dress with my quick go-to satay."
She admits she’s also a sucker for snacks.
“I’m always eating and I always carry nuts and fruit,” she added.
“I never leave the house without a snack in my bag.”
