Ivan vs Michael: it is so on
Ivan picks it before he even gets into the house, admitting that doesn't get along with 'larrikins'. (And guess what Michael is...)
"Michael seems to be somewhat the centre of attention," 30-year-old Ivan says with a look like he's sucked a lemon, after the two start talking about what they're looking for in a gal.
But after Ivan – who's described himself as obnoxious – admits he's "not particularly" enjoying the bucks', we wonder if maybe he needs to loosen up a little.
"It's a bit inappropriate for me," he says disdainfully.
"We’re all different personalities from different walks of life who’ve been thrown into a scenario that none of us had any control over. But I like to think that I‘m a gentleman so…"
"I hope my wife is somewhere out there conducting herself with a sense of calmness and composure."
Yeah, we definitely feel a blow-up coming on.
Josh is a total sweetheart
Bless his little cotton socks! Josh Pihluk has stolen our hearts from the word go. Between his cheeky grin and he reveal that he's wanted to be a dad since he was 13, the 28-year-old tradie from Newcastle has cemented himself as a firm favourite.
Genuinely excited to meet his new best mates, Josh explains:
"I’m stoked to have that support network to talk to, because I’m away from my family and friends."
Mikey Pembroke seems like a bit of a cutie-pie too, talking about how grateful he is to be there. Oh, and did we mention he's the operations manager for an aged care facility?
We're not sure yet if the 29-year-old is the real deal, or if he just has the face of a cherub... But we're willing to bet he's a goodie.
There are a bunch of DILF*s
*(Dads I'd Like to... Find love for. That's what is stands for, right?)
Let's hear it for the single dads!
This year's MAFS crop is full of them, we found out at the bucks' party, and we are living for the solo family guys (and girls!) hitting the reality TV circuit to find love again.
First, we have youth worker Chris Nicholls, who's dad to two sons. Aaand he's also a bit of a babe...
Remember larrikin Michael? Well he's a dad, too, and clearly super proud of his little boy. Aww!
"He’s an absolute legend, he’s just starting to talk," he reveals of the two-year-old.
Silver fox Steven Burley, 51, is also a father, revealing he has a 34-year-old son – which seems to kind of surprise some of the guys. Maybe because half of them aren't in their 30s yet...
In 2020, the misogyny is still strong
Ugh, there's always one, right?
One guy who has to say or do something gross that makes female (and, to be fair, a lot of male) viewers cringe/grimace/throw things at the TV?
Now, maybe he just did it for a laugh (obviously no-one's ever told him that's still uncool), but Michael got a bit offensive towards the ladies with a few of the things he said.
"We’ve all been with a good-looking girl and then listened to her and been like, 'Aw, turn that thing on silent,'" is one delightful comment he shares, laughing heartily at his own not-funny-at-all joke.
And when Ivan says he's not looking to steal a smooch when the marriage celebrant prompts him to 'kiss the bride', Michael has a lot to say about it.
"What, you’re not going to kiss her?"
"What are you gonna do, give her a hand shake?
"I think you’d make her look like a mug if you didn’t kiss her."
Jeez, calm down, guy!
The good news is, most of the lads didn't seem to agree with his comments. Mikey, Ivan, Josh and Steve all spoke out against him, saying it depends on what the bride wants (yes!).
Whiiiich prompted some really classy mockery from Michael, who put on a high-pitched voice and said:
"I’m not a piece of meat, I don’t want you using me for my body."
Groan. (We can't wait to see how this all unfolds...)
