Fans were quick to call out Ty Burell, who played Phil Dunphey's, absence - and although no reason was given as to why he couldn't make it, the rest of the cast clearly missed him, instead posing with a framed photograph of the actor.
Eric, who played Cam on the show shared a little but more insight into the framed picture of Phil in his own caption explaining; "for 11 years we would take family pictures for Modern Family and without missing one ever, I would always say, ‘now let’s do one without Ty.’ Last night Ty couldn’t make it to our little impromptu reunion, so I had to bring his favourite picture of Phil so we could ‘do one without Ty."
"I can see how this looks but Ty is alive and well I PROMISE😂❤️," added Ariel. "He’ll definitely be there for the next one 😉🎉"
Modern Family drew to an end in 2020 after 11 seasons. The show follows three modern-day families who are interrelated through their patriarch as they deal with their kids, quirky spouses and jobs in their own unique ways.
Not only was the long-running comedy a hit with fans, but it earned a number of awards throughout its run. The show was awarded the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for five years running.
Both Eric and Ty won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series twice, whilst Julie Bowen also won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series twice.
The show won a total of 22 Emmy awards from 75 nominations and also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2011.
