West Side Story
Steven Spielberg’s remake of the 1961 hit musical, West Side Story, has been praised widely by reviewers, and nominated for four Golden Globes.
Following the love story of Tony and Maria, who are associated with rival gangs in New York City, the film deals with issues of racism and intolerance – and also touches on gender – all with great singing and dancing accompanying it all.
The film is not only an homage to a classic, it’s also shot beautifully, and colourful numbers like America and I Feel Pretty make for a stunning visual feat.
House of Gucci
We can barely take the hype around this one! Ultra-talented Lady Gaga will be leading a pretty star-studded cast as Patrizia Reggiani, who married into the Gucci family, owners and creators of one of the biggest fashion brands in the world.
Some reviews have claimed the film is a tiny bit over the top, but to be fair, the true story the film is based on is completely over the top as well. It involves family in-fighting, an assassination, and an astrologer – so there’s no way you’ll catch us taking it too seriously.
We’re here for the drama, and for Lady Gaga, and our popcorn is at the ready!
Remember when we all thought Kristen Stewart was a bad actress because of the Twilight movies? Which I’m pretty certain she hated anyway? Yeah, those days seem to be gone now that she’s taken on the role of Princess Diana. She’s already been nominated as Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes, and Oscars chatter is abounding.
The film tells the story of Diana, whose mental health is failing while she is away with the royal family on a Christmas holiday. Perhaps more fiction than fact, the biopic is still being praised for its depiction of the trapped princess.
If you’re big into the royals, this is probably a must-see!
We highly doubt this reboot is garnering any awards chat, but we’re probably going to see it anyway. A bunch of sequels and a TV series later, there must be a reason they’re continuing the Scream franchise into 2022 – nostalgia? A lack of good horror movies? Courteney Cox’s ongoing intrigue and appeal? Perhaps it’s all three.
This iteration of Scream takes place 25 years after the events of the original movie, where a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and is out to wreak havoc. It’ll see the return of Courtney Cox and David Arquette, as well as Neve Campbell.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
And now for the kids! The Hotel Transylvania series has always been one of those rare gems that parents can enjoy as well as their little ones, and we’re sure this new one will be no exception.
Van Helsing’s new invention will be turning the monsters into humans this time around, and the gang must figure out how to use their mismatched bodies in their quest to switch themselves back.
Clifford the Big Red Dog
A millennial childhood icon is being reborn this summer, with Clifford coming to the big screen in a live-action film.
Young Emily Elizabeth is gifted a little red puppy, who immediately grows to become 10-foot tall – posing an issue given that Emily lives in a small New York City apartment. Joined on her adventure by her Uncle Casey, played by the hilarious Jack Whitehall, we’re keen to see what shenanigans these three get up to.
Millennial parents will love to see their beloved Clifford come to life, while we’re certain their kids will be equally thrilled with the film.
