My Kitchen Rules Season 10: Meet Mick and Jodie-Anne
This married couple from country Victoria are here to show the city folk how it’s done.
Let’s face it - Mick and Jodie-Anne are bound to make one heck of a first impression on their fellow contestants. Um - that hair!
MY KITCHEN RULES | 10th Anniversary Season
“She’s always been known for her haircuts,” says Mick, 47, who has been married to his wife for 16 years. “My hair and my clothes are like me,” Jodie-Anne, 49, explains. “Bubbly and colourful!”
The couple - Mick is a semi-retired excavator driver and Jodie-Anne is a photographer - admit they love nothing more than relaxing in their “little slice of heaven” home on the Murray River, cooking up a storm for family and friends.
But don’t expect anything too fancy.
“We like depth of taste, without being over the top fancy,” says Jodie-Anne, who says she’s a passionate cook without too many bells and whistles.
“I don’t need many fine things in my life. I have Mick!” she laughs.
Jodie-Anne, who competed on Ready Steady Cook in 2009, has hopes to one day forge a career in TV.
“It was Jodie-Anne’s dream to be on the show because she would love to have a TV, or similar, show with food - and I am very happy to support her in that dream, and be a part of this adventure with her,” says Mick.
“It was my idea to enter MKR with my Mum last year,” Jodie-Anne adds. “Then production suggested that I enter with Mick, and I’m damn glad I did!!
The loved-up couple are hoping their “champagne food on a beer budget” makes an impression - and they hope to have some fun along the way too.
“I think our team will just bring good old-fashioned, no games, honesty,” she says. “We aren’t rude, we practice kindness and compassion. And of course we will bring big hair and a lot of colour!!
But they are worried their lack of exposure to varied cuisines may put them at a considerable disadvantage.
“We have not been exposed to the tens of thousands of restaurants and café’s in this wide land, so we are quite limited with modern trends, flavours and cuisines,” Jodie-Anne admits.
She also says she’s worried they may not be mean enough to make it in the kitchen!
“We have learned that our biggest weakness is that we are too in love,” she explains. “We are supportive of one another, but we are not big on being blunt or rude when the chips are down.
“Manu pointed out that someone is going to have to stand up and delegate in pressure situations. We have spoken about that and I will be the one to make the demands, and Mick will not take it personally if I have to give a bit of a snappy order or two.”
