Fans are still reeling from the news that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have filed for divorce, but there might be more bad news on the way.
Last August, Jennifer Garner, 44, and Gwen Stefani, 46, announced their marriages were over within a few days of each other. Coincidence or ingenious media strategy? The former according to divorce attorney, Laura Wasser.
Entertainment news outlets called the breakups “the summer that loved died,”. Couples including Scott Disick ,33, and Kourtney Kardashian, 37, and Katy Perry, 31, and John Mayer,38, called it quits, and purposely, it turns out.
Speaking to Bloomberg Business, Wasser, one of Los Angeles’ most sought after divorce lawyers (whose clients include both Garner and Stefani), explained the strategy, “I’ll tell my clients, ‘I have someone else, I can’t say who, but you should really wait and file [for separation] at the same time,'” Wasser said, because this divides the media attention.
Ingenious, right? No wonder names like Angelina Jolie (from Billy Bob Thornton) and at least three Kardashians have enlisted Wasser’s help.
The 47 year-old also said that filing just before a public holiday or on a Friday afternoon use to be commonplace (Brad & Jennifer Aniston used this strategy) however with the rise of social media in recent years, the media has a faster turn-a-round.
