The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially announced when baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening is going to take place…and we have all the details.

Royal reporter Emily Nash confirmed to Hello! that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are holding Archie’s christening on July 6 – this Saturday – at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The intimate ceremony will be a private affair, with only a select few close family and friends in attendance. Unlike the christenings of Archie’s cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the press won’t be allowed to take any pictures – however, we’re expecting Harry and Meghan to release some select images from the special day via their Instagram account @sussexroyal.

Both the date and the place of the ceremony has important significance for the royal couple. St George’s Chapel is of course where Harry and Meghan had their wedding ceremony on May 19, 2018, but it is also where the Duke of Sussex was christened in 1984.

As for the date, July 6 is just two days after the July 4 Independence Day Holiday in the United States, a sweet nod to Meghan’s heritage. The date of the christening also marks exactly two months since Archie was born on May 6.

And what about the guest list? Archie’s grandfather, Prince Charles and wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will be in attendance, as well as the tiny tot’s grandmother – Meghan’s mother – Doria Ragland – who is expected to fly in from The States for the special occasion.

Harry’s brother, Prince William and wife, the Duchess of Cambridge will be present, however the Queen will sadly miss the occasion due to a prior commitment.

As for the rumoured godparents, Meghan’s close friend Serena Williams is largely expected to be chosen as one of Archie’s godmothers – especially as the tennis star will be playing at Wimbledon this week.

The Duchess of Sussex’s stylist and BFF Jessica Mulroney is also expected to fly in from Toronto for the special day.

Harry’s close friends, Mark Dyer, whose son, Jasper was a pageboy at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, and Soho House director Markus Anderson are both expected to be named godparents.

Nash states that the ceremony is expected to follow royal tradition, with the Archbishop of Canterbury baptising Archie using water from the River Jordan, which is the river which Jesus was baptised according to the Bible.

Archie is also expected to wear the replica Honiton gown, which was created to replace the original robe commissioned by Queen Victoria for the christening of her daughter Princess Victoria in 1841.
