With her clear, glowing, olive skin, it’s hard to believe that this season’s Bachelor in Paradise star Tenille Favios once suffered with debilitating cystic acne.
The reality beauty has admitted she battled with the condition in her early twenties and was prescribed strong medication to treat the cysts.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the 26-year-old flight attendant shared confronting throwback photos of her inflamed skin. She also uploaded a lengthy video discussing her worst breakout at age 21, and the steps she took to deal with the problem.
“I never had an issue with my skin and then I broke out five years ago – it was bad!” she explains. “I got it on my chin, around my nose, forehead, tops of my shoulders and down my neck.”
The BiP star went on to explain that doctors suggested she go on the pill, try antibiotics and use anti-bacterial washes on her face, however she chose to seek out an alternative treatment path.

After consulting a specialist, Tenille ended up on Roaccutane, a “very serious medication [with] a lot of serious side effects.”
Luckily, the side effects were not as bad as they could have been, with the worst being “severely dry” lips and an aversion to sunlight. The dermatologist put her on “the highest dosage” possible for a female of her body weight, and she took three tablets a day for nine months.
“It was the best thing I ever did,” she said. “It honestly relieved all of the frustrations and issues I was having with my skin,” she explained at the end of the video. “I never found out why my skin [broke out], and I’ve never had a problem since.”
Tenille now adopts a “less is more approach” to her skin care regime.
