She might own five cars, but rapper Cardi B can’t drive any of them, as she demonstrated in the latest instalment of “Carpool Karaoke”. “You know how many things I can rap about now that I own these cars?” she told host James Corden, by way of explanation for having multiple vehicles she can’t use. “I couldn’t rap about these cars because I didn’t own them, but now I can rap about it.”
During the segment, The Late Late Show host tried to teach Cardi how to drive, taking her to a parking lot with traffic cones and flags set up – but the 26-year-old quickly established that she best leave the driving to others, running into cones, flags and a camera. She also turned left after Corden told her to take a right turn.
For the remainder of the segment, Cardi was safely ensconced in the passenger seat, and performed hits like “Bodak Yellow”, “Money” and “Drip” alongside Corden.
As well as her driving lesson, Cardi visited a senior citizens centre – Corden thought it would be a good idea for her to perform for an older demographic – taking part in a dance class and performing “I Like It” for the elderly.
She also discussed her struggle to find success with her music and her difficult upbringing with Corden, saying, “I grew up in what people would consider the ghetto. So yeah, there was a lot of gang-related things. There was a lot of violence, but I also had a lot of fun growing up.”
