There’s no doubt about it, the dishes that are served up on MasterChef are fit for royalty and it appears that may literally be the case as Channel Ten confirms Prince Charles is set to make an appearance on the 10th season of the reality TV show.
Taking to Twitter, the Network has formally announced that the 69-year-old royal will be involved in a special challenge for aspiring Australian chefs.
The Prince headed Down Under for the Commonwealth Games and hosted a reception at the Royal Flying Doctor Service base in Darwin on April 8. The event was catered by MasterChef contestants as part of a challenge on the hit show.
Judge Gary Mehigan revealed the severity of this challenge for contestants. “It is not only an enormous privilege and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cook for His Royal Highness’s reception but a challenge, too,” she said.
Gary explained that Prince Charles’ advocacy for sustainability will be incorporated into the challenge, with contestants using locally-based ingredients in the dishes they create.
“The Prince Of Wales has always been an advocate for the environment and sustainability,” Gary said. “He is well-known as a supporter of local producers and locally sourced produce.”
He added, “With this in mind, the challenge for our contestants is to respect and reflect his philosophy and use native ingredients along with other locally-sourced ingredients.”
