Chris Hemsworth reportedly plans to take a step back from acting following his diagnosis with a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s last year.
A source told Page Six, the Aussie actor, 39, “doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of [learning about his high risk for] Alzheimer’s.”
Whilst he does have four upcoming projects in the works, Chris is reportedly slowing down on accepting any future roles.
The news follows Hemsworth’s interview with Vanity Fair, where he insisted that he’s “not talking about retiring by any means.”
However, the source told Page Six, that he is “heading in that direction.”
The father of three learnt of his “shocking” health warning during the filming of his series Limitless, last year.
The 39-year-old father of three learnt he is eight to ten times more likely than the average individual to develop Alzheimer’s disease during a conversation with longevity physician Dr Peter Attia.
“We’ve got every blood test one can get,” Attia explained to Hemsworth in the show. “And you’ve got two copies of APOE4. A set from your mum and a set from your dad.”
APOE4 is the gene that has the strongest correlation to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
“The idea that I won’t be able to remember the life I experienced, or my wife, my kids, is probably my biggest fear,” the Thor star candidly explained.
Attia told Chris, “It’s my belief that if we take every step possible, we can reduce your risk to that of anyone else.”
Chris also revealed that his grandfather suffers from the disease. “He either doesn’t remember who we are, you know, his grandkids, but also even his own children, for years. It’s heartbreaking.”
