This story contains major spoilers for the first season of Dirty John.
From the outset, a second season of Dirty John has been on the cards. But what can we expect from the next instalment of the Netflix drama? The trailer for Season 1 is below, but seriously, if you haven’t watched those episodes yet, stop reading now and come back when you’re up to date!
Season 2 will be a completely different story
Given the way Season 1 of Dirty John ended – OK, we’ll just say it: John (Eric Bana) died – that storyline has concluded. The second season will focus on a fresh situation with new characters, making Dirty John an anthology series with each season consisting of a self-contained plot.
There will be a new cast
Given Season 2’s storyline is expected to be completely unrelated to what we’ve seen so far, none of the cast from Season 1, including Connie Britton, Juno Temple and Jean Smart, are expected to return.
Expect Season 2 to drop later this year
Series creator Alexandra Cunningham will continue to oversee the second season of Dirty John, with all signs pointing to a release date much later in the year. Season 1 was released in the US in November 2018, before rolling out internationally earlier this year – and it is anticipated that Season 2 will follow around the same time.
Everything else is a mystery
No further details about plot or cast have been announced yet. While we wait for more information, maybe check out new true crime podcast Over My Dead Body, which comes from the makers of Dirty John and is generating a similar amount of buzz.
